Blur

Nominated for: Album of the Year, Group of the Year, Alternative/Rock Act

The Ballad of Darren - Indie stalwarts Blur re-emerge after a 8 year hiatus to rapturous applause on their ninth studio album. With elements of lounge pop, their latest record is a soaring epic. Despite naming the album after the band’s longtime head of security Darren Evans, Albarn commented that: ‘Darren is many people. It is directly one person.’ Although short, The Ballad of Darren is a case of quality over quantity. This is Blur doing what they do best.

Despite being relatively long, with twenty three tracks, the flow of the songs have been carefully considered, with very few filler tracks, if any at all. Emotionally charged, cohesive and full of character, SZA is a master of her craft. The queen of R&B excels on SOS, giving her fans a truly phenomenal record.

Lana Del Rey

Nominated for: International Artist of the Year

Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd? - American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey follows up on her 2021 double release with Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. Stating that she wanted her latest record to have “a spiritual element”, Del Rey’s latest offering is complex, unsettling and profound. Under-appreciated as a writer, her latest entry is slightly obscure, with some fairly lengthy tracks, yet this ninth studio album is possibly her most important one yet.

Romy

Nominated for: Dance Act

Mid Air - Romy, member of indie band The xx, releases her debut solo album, Mid Air. Regarded by Romy as a love letter to the gay clubs she attended growing up, the album references 00s dance-pop. With influences from Everything but the Girl and Calvin Harris, the album themes include love, grief, and mental health. It’s a sound that’s set to unify dance floors, offering pure euphoria and escapism, and is one of the most confident dance records in recent years.
