Please introduce your name and role

My name is Tom Fall; I’m the Global Head of Quality for Monitor Audio Group. My role is to ensure that our products are manufactured to the same high standard every time and that they’re reliable. That means I oversee processes, procedures, and actual production both in the UK and with our suppliers overseas.

What does “quality” mean to you in the context of the Roksan Caspian Series 4G?

Quality for Caspian Series 4G is a combination of tangible and intangible. It’s the carefully considered, custom-designed, individually machined aluminium heatsinks; the reassuring weight of the overall product; the clear and concise OLED display; and the fluidity of the user interface. Every element of Caspian Series 4G was agonised over to make sure that the whole product exudes quality.

How do you maintain consistency across hand-built units?

Quality isn’t something you can add in after a product is built or designed; it has to be part of the design and engineering process from the very start. That was something we worked really hard on for Caspian Series 4G. Every part and every assembly method was meticulously planned so that it was easy to assemble, with no soldering and as few tools as possible. That’s coupled with a step-by-step assembly guide, torque-controlled assembly tools, assembly jigs, and kits of parts that are picked to the exact quantity of parts required for a build.

Once a product is built, it’s run through a 200-step Audio Precision test, measuring every input and output to be perfectly to specification before being allowed out to a customer.

What innovations in Caspian 4G, especially the Pre and Power, are you most proud of from a quality standpoint?

I think the seamless integration of hardware and software. The team has worked incredibly hard to make the Caspian Series 4G more than just the sum of its parts; instead, it’s a cohesive product that’s an absolute joy to use.
