My role as Production Line Supervisor is to ensure that the production line operates as efficiently and effectively as possible. I make sure the team knows what the priorities are and help them deal with any challenges that may arise during the build.
I am also involved in picking components and building and testing units to support the team. I also lead the 5s program, which is all about workplace organisation and helps keep the production area clean and tidy and ensures everything is in its correct location.
The first step when building a Caspian is to assemble the Front Panel Assembly. This assembly includes the Caspian's display screen and encoder and is the core interface for the user. Once complete, this Front Panel Assy is then assembled onto the main chassis.
It typically takes between 1.5 and 2 hrs, which includes testing. The tested units are then put on ‘soak’ for approximately 4 hours, which helps ensure that once the units are at full operating temperature, they work as expected. The units are then packed into their custom packaging, ready for dispatch.
We have a variety of torque screwdrivers with predefined values, which are used throughout the build. We have standardised both the fixings and torque values wherever possible to reduce the need for multiple tools and to speed up the build process.
For me, it’s the attention to detail. Every Caspian is built by hand, and we take real pride in making sure it’s perfect before it leaves the line. The design is elegant, the components are chosen for performance, and the sound is something special.
