The Ballad of Darren

Blur | Parlophone UK

Indie stalwarts Blur re-emerge after a 8 year hiatus to rapturous applause on their ninth studio album. With elements of lounge pop, their latest record is a soaring epic. Despite naming the album after the band’s longtime head of security Darren Evans, Albarn commented that: ‘Darren is many people. It is directly one person.’ Although short, The Ballad of Darren is a case of quality over quantity. This is Blur doing what they do best.

My Back Was A Bridge For You To Cross

ANOHNI and the Johnsons | Rough Trade

My Back Was a Bridge for You to Cross is the fifth studio album by Anohni and the Johnsons. On her first full album since HOPELESSNESS, Anohni stated the creative process was painstaking, yet also inspired, joyful, and intimate. Personal and political, Anohni’s voice is captivating as she addresses a number of themes though her own personal lens, such as alienation, inequality and acceptance. A powerful entry that will stay with you long after.

I Want It All Right Now

GROUPLOVE | Glassnote Music LLC

After mainstream and indie success, American alternative rock band GROUPLOVE provide a pleasant surprise with the release of their fifth studio album. Married couple Hannah and Christian are fantastic on vocals, alongside tambourines, crashing guitars and piano accents. Although known for their live act, filling stadiums with their huge, uplifting choruses, I Want It All Right Now works just as well sitting at home, bringing much needed positive energy and fun.

Starcatcher

Greta Van Fleet | Lava - Republic Records

Continuing their evolution, modern rock pioneers Greta Van Fleet return for their third studio album. Described as an expansion of the band's sound, Starcatcher is a solid entry and sits them with the new age of rock and roll. Enough of the Led Zeppelin comparisons - they have paved their own path with this ambitious record. Soaring vocals, headbanging and masterful musical storytelling, hopefully fans won’t have to wait too long for their next project.

When Horses Would Run

Being Dead | Bayonet Records

Blending a sound that is reminiscent of 60’s garage rock, rowdy Texas-based multi-instrumentalists Being Dead release their highly anticipated debut album. The energetic three-piece from Austin have a unique, eccentric style, which is clear on When Horses Would Run. With care-free lyricism, the band say themselves that they do what they do to make us and each other laugh. This imaginative project from the goofy trio is infections and joyous.
